Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this group suitable for?
Anyone with an interest in walking and other outdoor activities can apply to join. Our members live in North London and the surrounding areas, and are of a wide range of ages.
What do we do?
We organise events all year round. Please see about us for details.
How are weekends away arranged?
Any member can volunteer to arrange a weekend away, supplying details to the weekends away coordinator. Upon approval by the committee, details are issued by the organiser. Any attending member can volunteer to lead a walk during the weekend. There is typically a longer walk on the Saturday and a shorter walk on the Sunday, weather dependent. Car sharing can be arranged between the participants.
Who are the committee?
The committee is elected at the annual general meeting (AGM) in October. All members are eligible to vote and any member can stand for election.
How do I join?
You are welcome to join us for up to three walks (day or evening), or one social event and up to two walks. After attending these free events, we invite you to apply for annual membership, if you wish to take part in any further events.
How much is annual membership?
Annual membership for the year from 1st November to 31st October costs £24.
If you are under 18, are on means-tested benefits, or have no income other than the state pension, membership costs are halved.
Members who live outside the local area are eligible for associate membership at half the membership cost. This is based on the member’s permanent address at the beginning of the membership year, or at time of joining, whichever is later. The local area is defined as postcodes beginning with:

- E, EC, N, NW, W, WC
(London north of the Thames) - EN (Enfield)
- AL (St Albans)
- HA (Harrow)
- WD (Watford)
- SG3, SG12, SG13, SG14
(Knebworth, Ware, Hertford) - HP1, HP2, HP3
(Hemel Hempstead Town)
